Welcome to the second article of our a five part series, covering all aspects of selecting the best blind type for your room and your personailtiy.
Question 2 - What interior design look are you trying to achieve in the room?
Below are some of the most popular interior design styles and the blind ranges that we think suit them best.
Modern
Characterised by clean, crisp, straight lines, simple colours, use of metal, glass and steel. Opt for aluminium venetians, Z-Lites, or rigid PVC verticals.
Contemporary
Design based on the here and now. Look to real wood venetians and faux wood venetians in the wider slats (50mm and above) which are exceptionally popular. Perfect fit blind are also a consideration.
Traditional
A look consisting of sumptuous, rich colour schemes with elaborate furnishings and accessories using a variety of materials such as silk, velvet and wood. Consider wide slatted real wood venetians and faux wood venetians or roman blinds. You could also look to fitting a blind inside a window recess with curtains fitted outside of the recess to layer and dress the window further.
Minimalist
Colour palettes are neutral, furnishings are simple and streamlined. Nothing is excessive or flamboyant in this style with an emphasis on functionality. Blinds that would suit this look would be roller blinds or pleated blinds. aluminium venetians could also be a consideration. These are all blinds that are simple to operate and when raised have very little gather at the top of the window providing clean lines and clear views out with no clutter.
Industrial
This look draws inspiration from a factory, warehouse or urban loft. Think exposed brick, pipes and timber, high ceilings, large windows and metal light fixtures. View our aluminium venetians, roller blinds with metal chains and vertical blinds.
Eclectic
This is a style of contrasting materials, styles, colours and textures with a unifying element to bring it all together. Neutral colours such as white, grey, black and beige are used with a bold accent colour. You could make a blind a feature in this style such a brightly coloured roman blind or vivid roller blind. Alternatively, if you have a bold colour is elsewhere in the room you could look at beautiful real wood venetians and faux wood venetian in a neutral shade.
Rustic
This look is drawn from natural inspiration, using materials such wood and stone. It may include features like wood beams or reclaimed wood or tiled floors. Have a look at our real wood venetian ranges if you want to increase the natural materials in the room or if you need a bit of softness consider something from our roman blind range.
Shabby chic
This is a vintage-inspired style, which is soft and delicate. Furnishings can be distressed and worn looking. Colours include whites, creams and pastels. Opt for a faux wood venetian with an embossed textured finish or consider an aluminium venetian in a pastel shade. A roman blind or a pleated blind could be used to add a touch of warmth and softness to this style.
Hollywood glam
This is wonderfully luxurious, over-the-top and opulent look utilising dramatic, bold colours. Our soft touch roman blinds possibly with interlining would be a great addition to this look.
Coastal
Appropriate for our Brighton office this is a relaxed and comfortable look inspired by the ocean. Light and airy, cool neutral shades are paired with blues and greens. Furnishings are often white or beige. Striped fabrics, sea theme patterns and painted white wood are common features. Our roller blinds are worth exploring as well as our aluminium venetians and pleated blinds. I also think real wood venetians and faux wood venetian could also look good here. We also have a few striped fabrics in our roman blind range too.
Bohemian
A carefree style with little rules. Anything goes as long as you like it. This means any blind could be used for this style. Just make sure the blind type you are selecting is suitable for the room type. E.g do not install a real wood in a bathroom.
