For the majority of our products we offer the choice of recess or exact size. The option you pick depends on how you measure for your blinds. How you measure depends on how you will be installing your blinds. Read more below;

Recess  Size

Choose this option when fitting your blind inside of the window recess. You measure your window recess, supply these dimensions, and select the recess option when ordering. Measure the width from recess wall to recess wall, touching and from the top of the recess down to the windowsill, touching. (See our Measuring Guide for more precise instructions).

What we do; We then make your blind slightly smaller than the sizes you give us so the blind fits nicely within your recess. The deductions we make will depend on the blind type you are ordering. It’s important that you do not make any deductions yourself.

Is Recess Size right for you? Put simply, a recessed window is one that is set back into the wall. Fitting the blind inside this space means that it doesn’t stick out into the room, resulting in a neat finish. The measuring process is simple as you are just measuring your recess and do not have to make any deductions yourself.

Exact  Size

Choose this option when fitting your blind outside the window recess or at windows that do not have a recess. You measure from where you want the top of the blind to sit down to where you want the blind to finish, supply these dimensions and select the Exact option when ordering. (See our Measuring Guide for more precise instructions).

What we do; Your blind will be made to the sizes you give to us and we do not make any deductions to the supplied sizes. (We do work to an industry standard manufacturing tolerance of plus/minus 0.5cm but we are usually pretty spot on).

Is Exact Size right for you? It might be that you do not have a recess to fit your blind inside, or that you need a blind that sits outside of the recess and therefore are ordering a blind with extra width and height to overlap the recessed space. This is the option if you do not want us to make any deductions from your supplied sizes.

If you are measuring for bay window or conservatory do talk to us so we can advise you on the best way to measure and order your blinds.

Roller Blinds

Recess Sized roller blinds

We're going to make your roller blind width approximately 1cm smaller than the width you give. This is so the blind and fittings do not hit the wall. We leave the height as it is. Remember the actual fabric of the blind will then be about 4cm narrower than the supplied width. This to allow for the brackets at either end of the roller tube.

Exact Sized Roller binds

Your roller blind will be made to the sizes you give to us. For the width this is the bracket to bracket measurement. The brackets sit at each end of the roller tube. Remember the actual fabric of the blind will be about 3.5cm narrower than the width you supply to allow for these brackets at end of the roller tube.

Real Wood and Faux Wood  Venetian Blinds

Recess sized Real Wood and Faux Wood Venetian Blinds

We’re going to make the width of your blind approximately 1cm-1.5cm smaller than the width you give. This is so the blind fits nicely inside your recess and the slats do not scrape against the recess walls. We leave the height as it is so the base rail will sit on your windowsill. The pelmet will be square cut with no end returns supplied.

Exact sized Real Wood and Faux Wood Venetian Blinds

Your blind will be made to the sizes you give to us. We do not make any deductions.

The pelmet will be mitred with end returns to cover the sides of your headrail.

Please note:

  1. When ordering multiple blinds at very similar widths or heights, please be aware that a difference of even 0.1cm in the sizes you supply, can mean a change to the number of ladder cords/tapes/slats used between blinds. This is particularly important to bear in mind where blinds are installed in close proximity, and you are seeking a uniform look.
  2. Due to how venetians are made the height you supply is divided up between the headrail, base rail and the slat width you have selected (eg 25mm or 50mm slatting for example). Since we cannot add a partial slat, to ensure height is covered, we sometimes have to add a whole slat eg a 50mm slat even if we are just trying to cover the remainder 40mm of a supplied height. It is normal therefore to sometimes have one or two slats sitting on the base rail. These slats also act in another capacity to keep the base rail flat to the windowsill when you angle your slats.

Aluminium Venetian Blinds

Exact sized Roman Blinds

Your blind will be made to the sizes you give to us. We do not make any deductions.

Vertical Blinds

Recess sized vertical blinds

We will take 1cm off the width and height you supply. This is so the blind and fittings don’t rub against the wall and the louvres hang beautifully without touching the windowsill.

Please note we will divide up the height you give us between the vertical headrail and the vertical slats. You do not need to make an allowance for the headrail.

We do not have an Exact size ordering option for vertical blinds. This is due to us having a number of factories that make our Vertical blinds for us and Exact Size means something slightly different for each of them. If you want to order Exact sized vertical blinds just email us and we will provide you with specific advice on this.

Perfect Fit Blinds

Perfect fit blinds do not have an Exact or Recess option. This is due to the fact you are measuring the visible glass areas of the individual panes of glass on your window. We then make blinds and to fit each of these glass areas.
